Hear LAPD Detective True Crime Stories This Saturday in Dillsboro

The event will honor the memory of a Dillsboro native and hero.

(Dillsboro, Ind.) – True crime fans will not want to miss out on an upcoming event in Dillsboro.

Rick Jackson and Ernie Basset of the LAPD will speak on Saturday, May 3 at the Dillsboro Civic Center. The event will start at 2:00 p.m. with doors opening at 1:30.

Jackson and Basset worked under slain LAPD Detective and Dillsboro native Russell Kuster. The former LAPD detectives will speak about working high profile and interesting cases with Kuster during their time with the Los Angeles Hollywood Homicide Division.

Kuster was a 1958 Dillsboro graduate who was hired by the LAPD in 1966. He rose through the ranks, becoming head of the Hollywood Homicide Division in the late 1970s. He was killed in 1990 after exchanging gun fire at a restaurant with a parolee.

Ernie Basset knew Kuster going back to their patrol days and later worked for Kuster during the 1980s and 1990s. Jackson worked with Kuster most of the 1980s.

Because of their lengthy relationship with Kuster, both will tell stories about working with Kuster, their friendship, Kuster’s constant reference to growing up in Dillsboro, and his yearly returns to visit his family on the farm.

The event is sponsored by the Dillsboro Heritage Legacy.
