(Harrison, Oh.) - Harrison Fire Department's newest team member is a German Shepherd.

Known as Keiser, named after the the Keiser Machine used in firefighter combat challenges, is in training for Search and Rescue.

He works by the side of Lt. Chris Gundrum, who proposed the K9 program as part of the department's growing efforts in Community Risk Reduction.

Keiser is still completing his formal certification, according to The Source, the City of Harrison's brand-new hub for community news.

Gundrum is training Keiser on his own time in partnership with a local search and rescue group, Code 3. Once certified, Keiser may also take on a role in public education outreach, visiting schools and community events.
