Harrison Christmas Events Cancelled; Tree Lighting Will Be Shared On Social Media

The City is asking residents to share holiday photos to help spread some Christmas cheer.

(Harrison, Oh.) – After much consideration, Harrison’s holiday events have been cancelled.

Mayor Bill Neyer announced Tuesday that the annual Christmas parade and tree lighting ceremony will not take place due to COVID-19 concerns.

The City is making plans to record the tree lighting at an unannounced time to prevent a crowd from gathering. The recording will be posted to the City’s social media pages, and the tree will remain lit throughout the holiday season.

“This decision was not made lightly,” Neyer said. “Even before the state amended its order related to mass gatherings, we discussed whether having these events would be in the best interest of our citizens. While we are very disappointed, we encourage the people of Harrison to be good neighbors, protect each other and lift each other’s spirits during this holiday season.”

The City is doing what they can to help spread holiday cheer. All city residents are asked to share snapshots from their homes or places around town that capture the spirit of the season. The images will be shared on social media, with participants being entered into a prize giveaway.

Photos may be shared on the City’s Facebook page, or by posting a public photo and using the tag #myHarrisonOH in the caption. Photos may also be submitted to jgreiwe@harrisonohio.gov.
