AUDIO: Friends Of Lauren Hill Work To Make Memorial Park A Reality

The local non-profit is now accepting donations for the project.

(Greendale, Ind.) - The Friends of Lauren Hill are trying to build a park in the memory of Lauren Hill.

This idea started back in 2017 by local residents Tom Biedenharn and Adam Duwel, a former St. Lawrence School student that currently attends Elder High School.

Duwel tells Eagle Country 99.3 that the first phase of the park will consist of a dog park and a 3-mile biking and walking trail. The property is located at the top of Georgetown Road, just across from the 11th fairway at Hidden Valley Golf Club.

The Friends of Lauren Hill group currently consists of over 20 people, including the Hill family.

"Right now were basically in that rush of fundraising and kind of getting the word out," said Duwel. "It's just a really exciting time to be part of the process. It's been almost four years in the making."

The goal for Phase 1 is to raise between $125,00-$150,000. To date, the group has raised about $50,000.

Organizers are already brainstorming ideas to expand the park after completion of phase one.

"We have a 15-year lease with the City of Greendale. Future plans include a basketball court and maybe other recreational sports that are uncommon," said Duwel.

Friends of Lauren Hill is looking for donations of money and volunteer time.

Donations can be made via our website http://friendsoflaurenhill.com/. All those interested in volunteering can email us at friendsoflaurenhill@gmail.com.
