Franklin County Resident First Presumptive Positive Test For COVID-19

The Franklin County Board of Health and Health Department are awaiting the results of confirmatory testing conducted by the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

(Franklin Co., Ind.) - The Franklin County Board of Health and Health Department has reported the first presumptive positive test for COVID-19 (coronavirus).

This presumptive positive test means that the individual has been tested at a regional medical facility or doctor’s office, but awaiting the results of confirmatory testing conducted by the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

The individual and family affected are currently taking the necessary steps which include self-quarantine. Officials are working to determine how this individual may have been exposed to the virus.

Although this individual did have a presumptive positive result, it was reported that they are recovering.

Health officials are working with Emergency Management, the Commissioner’s Office, County Council, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, as well as with the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) and CDC to monitor the situation and give updated information as it becomes available.

Citizens are reminded to continue taking precautions such as:

  • Washing your hands
  • Social distancing
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth

It is important to avoid spreading illness to those who may be more susceptible due to underlying health conditions. Stay home if you are sick, unless it is to receive medical care. Use these times of school and employment closure to stay home.

If you think that you may have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop symptoms, including fever cough or difficulty breathing, call your healthcare provider for medical advice.

As always, for the latest COVID-19 information, visit www.in.gov/isdh or www.cdc.gov.
