It was an emotional school board meeting on Monday night.
(Brookville, Ind.) – Franklin County Community School Superintendent Tammy Chavis is leaving the school district.
A separation agreement was brought forward at Monday’s regular school board meeting. The agreement was unanimously passed by the school board 7-0.
Board president Francis Brumback had to fight back tears when talking about the impact Chavis has had on the school corporation.
“I don’t feel it’s the best thing for us, but it is the best thing for her. Our students will pay the price, but she can be a shining star in another corporation where she doesn’t get beat down every single day. I have no choice but to respect her wishes,” said Brumback.
Rick Gill stated he “would hate to see her leave” and that she has been an “outstanding superintendent.”
“I hate to see anybody bullied out of something that they are doing good. I feel this is something we should stand up for. I wish you would reconsider,” he added.
Brumback said Chavis is not “running off” as she is willing to stay on until a new superintendent is named.
If Chavis is to change her mind, there is a 21-day waiver period to rescind separation agreement.
