CINCINNATI – Nurse Lissa Rullman is a member of the Breast Oncology Team at the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center.

So, she wasn’t exactly prepared to perform a childbirth when she was flagged down by a Spanish-speaking husband and wife at the Bellevue garage.

But Rullman was the only person present at the time of labor and she promptly aided in the safe delivery of the baby.

Rullman was later joined by Dr. Mary Mahoney, Chair of Radiology. Together they applied a sternal rub to the newborn, who was having some initial difficulty breathing.

Rullman was recognized for her heroic acts with a Daisy Award.

The recognition program celebrates and honors nurses by collecting nominations from patients, families, and co-workers.

Rullman is a former graduate of Ivy Tech Lawrenceburg’s Nursing program.
