Florence Woman Charged After Falsely Accusing Man Of Attempting Child Abduction

Halie Snyder is being charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident.

(Boone Co., Ky.) - A Florence woman is being charged after falsely reporting a crime to Boone County police.

On Thursday, January 30, the Boone County Sheriff's Office became aware of a social media post alleging an attempted child abduction at the Burlington Kroger on Tuesday, January 28.

Halie Snyder, 26, reported to police on Jan. 30, that while shopping with her young son at Kroger on Jan. 28, a middle-aged man, possibly in his 50's, began following her and her son throughout the store.

Snyder claimed that the man attempted to grab her son by the arm as they were exiting an aisle to which she grabbed the child and immediately ran to a Kroger employee to report what happened.

Kroger employees looked for the man, but according to Snyder's report, the man had already left the store and was not located.

An official investigation was launched after hearing Snyder's report along with many phone calls and social media inquiries about the allegation.

Kroger management cooperated throughout the investigation and worked closely with detectives to sift through hours of video footage.

Detectives found that the surveillance did not match Snyder's report to Boone County Police on January 30.

Snyder was interviewed again by detectives to confirm the accuracy of the story she gave Boone County Police Officers.

The detectives again met with Kroger management to compare Snyder's statement to the video footage. It was then determined by detectives that the man in question at no time ever acted suspicious and did not attempt to grab Snyder's son.

Snyder's allegation was determined to be false.

After being confronted with the findings, Snyder apologized to detectives. She claimed that she was scared and could not specify why she feared the man she accused.

Yesterday, a Boone County Criminal Summons was issued. Snyder is being charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident (Class A Misdemeanor).
