UPDATE: Five Extricated, One Ejected in U.S. 421 Crash

Multiple agencies responded on Tuesday evening.

UPDATE (as of 9:19 a.m.):

On Tuesday February 11, 2025, Ripley County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a multi vehicle traffic accident on US 421 near CR 700 S.

It was determined that a white 2011 Toyota Highlander was traveling South on US 421 when the vehicle lost control and crossed the center line and was struck in the passenger side by a 2015 Chrysler Town and Country.

Both drivers, 30 year old male, Zachery Richardson, of Versailles, and 30 year old female Carol Austin, of Versailles, and three juveniles where transported by EMS for their injuries. Ashley Hunger, 34, of Versailles, was a passenger of the Toyota Highlander and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Ripley County EMS.

Family has been notified. Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash.

Ripley County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Versailles Police Department, Osgood Police Department, Indiana Conservation, Indiana State Police, Versailles Fire Department, New Marion Fire Department, Ripley County EMS Versailles/ Milan, and Sunman Rescue 20.

(Versailles, Ind.) - Multiple agencies responded to a serious accident on Tuesday evening. 

The vehicle accident took place along U.S. 421, just south of Versailles. 

According to Versailles Fire Rescue, five patients were extricated from the vehicles involved, while one person was ejected. 

The status of the six individuals involved was not released. 

Versailles Fire was assisted at the scene by New Marion VFD, RCEMS, Sunman Rescue 20, Batesville Fire Rescue, Ripley 'County Sheriff's Office and the Indiana State Police.
