Fire Truck Pull to Benefit Special Olympics Happens Saturday in Lawrenceburg

Some streets will be closed due to the event.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - One of the biggest fundraising events for Special Olympics Indiana - Ripley Ohio Dearborn Counties returns to Lawrenceburg this weekend. 

The annual Fire Truck Pull takes place on Saturday, August 9 at Lawrenceburg Civic Park. 

Due to the event the following streets will be closed between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

  • Lawrenceburg Civic Park is closed to thru traffic 
  • E. High St. between Short St to alley between Short St. & Elm St. 
  • Short St. between New St. to Proof 124 restaurant 

Available parking at Ivy Tech parking garage: 

  • US 50 to Walnut St. follow to entrance of parking garage at Ivy Tech 
  • New St. entrance to Ivy Tech parking garage open 
  • US 50 to Hollywood Blvd which turns into Center St., left on Walnut St, follow to 
  • Entrance of parking garage at Ivy Tech

Special Olympics Indiana is partnering with Lawrenceburg Fire for the one-day event, where teams will compete to pull a fully loaded fire truck weighing 50,000 pounds. The event will also feature family attractions and fire safety displays and demonstrations. 

Teams of 10 or less will compete for the bragging rights in the ultimate tug-of-war with a 50,000 pound fire truck. Each team raises a minimum $750 in pledges to see who can pull the fire truck 50 feet in the shortest amount of time. 

All proceeds from the event go to support Special Olympics Indiana - Ripley Ohio Dearborn Counties, allowing athletes with intellectual disabilities to train and compete on a local and state level in 20 Olympic-type sports.
