(Franklin County, Ind.) – One of two bridges providing motorists a shortcut across Brookville Lake will close for rehabilitation this year.

Fairfield Causeway Road provides a link between state highways 1 and 101 thanks to its two-lane bridge over Brookville lake about four miles north of the lake dam.
Motorists will have to take the long way around the lake starting in late April or early May. That’s when contractors are expected to get started on a rehabilitation project on the Fairfield Causeway Bridge.

Indiana Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Manning says the work will include deck removal and replacement, cleaning and painting of the steel beams, and guardrail replacement.

The bridge will likely not reopen until late October, “but dates aren’t nailed down as the notice to proceed to contract has not been given yet.”

Manning says the Fairfield Causeway Bridge rehabilitation is a $1.9 million local project receiving federal funds.
