Engineers May Have A Driftwood Solution For Rising Sun Boat Docks

A proposed diverter system could keep Ohio River driftwood from harming the city's seasonal boat docks.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - The seasonal docks on the Ohio River at Rising Sun could be getting some new protection from driftwood.

The Rising Sun Port Authority is planning a project to install a diverter system to protect the docks and the boats moored to them, according to a public meeting notice from Rising Sun Clerk-Treasurer Rae Baker Gipson.

The diverter would allow the docks to shed driftwood and other river debris. In the past, the docks have occasionally broken free from their moorings due to the pressure from the driftwood.

The port authority has scheduled a public meeting on Wednesday, July 17 at the Ohio County Historical Society Building to hear from engineers about how the proposed diverter system could help solve the problem. From 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. there will be an informal time to meet with engineers on the project. Starting at 6:00, a formal presentation will be given, followed by a question and answer period.
