(St. Leon, Ind.) - Caitlyn Dick was not expecting the news she got on Wednesday.

Dearborn Community Foundation executive director Fred McCarter, along with accountant Cheryl Wessel, surprised the East Central High School senior with a 2023 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Dearborn County.

The full-tuition scholarship came available after one of the two recipients declined the scholarship to attend an out-of-state school.

Dick, who was among the six finalists for two Lilly Scholarships, was awarded the scholarship as the first alternate.

The Lilly Scholarship provides full tuition, required fees and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time bais leading to a baccalaureate degree at any Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.
