(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – A local teen’s Eagle Scout project will allow local police to improve their marksmanship skills.
Deryk Tibbs was joined by his fellow Boy Scouts and members of the Laughery Valley Fraternal Order of Police in dedicating a new long-distance rifle range at the FOP lodge on Brooks Road in Lawrenceburg on Monday.
The 17-year-old celebrated by shooting a block of explosive tannerite at the range. He nailed it at a distance of 100 yards.
Tibbs put a lot of sweat into the project. He had to cut down 200 yards of trees and brush, a fire pit had to be relocated, new concrete was poured, and the target area had to be set up. He did get some generous contributions from the FOP, Combs Pizza, and Smyrna Ready Mix Concrete.
Now that the local FOP is equipped with its own rifle range, police in the area will no longer have to travel long distances to train and get their certification.
