Aurora Man Accused Of Strangulation

Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a home on State Road 48 in Manchester Township on Wednesday morning.

(Aurora, Ind.) - An Aurora man is accused of domestic battery in the presence of a minor.

Dearborn County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a home on State Road 48 in Manchester Township on Wednesday morning.

When deputies first arrived, they spoke to the victim, who said she had been battered and prevented from leaving her home by Robert G. Michels III.

The victim added that she and Michels had engaged in an argument a day prior and that Michels pushed her to the floor, causing a mild injury to her knee. Another argument ensued on Wednesday, leading to Michels throwing items inside the home and allegedly blocking the victim from leaving.

A 14-year-old that lives in the home was present during the alleged incidents. The juvenile female told deputies that she saw Michels choke the victim and prevent her from leaving the home.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the victim said Michels grabbed her by the throat and caused her breathing to be constricted. She added that the only reason he stopped was because the 14-year-old had witnessed what was happening.

After being read his Miranda Rights, Michels was interviewed. He denied any physical altercation.

Michels is charged with Strangulation (Level 6 felony), Criminal Confinement (Level 6 felony) and Domestic Battery in the Presence of a Minor (Level 6 felony).
