(Dillsboro, Ind.) - In a Special Meeting Saturday February 3, the Dillsboro Town Council unanimously voted to hire Derek Walker as the new Town Manager. Walker has a Master of Urban and Regional Planning and is an experienced municipal manager.

Interim Town Manager, Susan Greco said, “We have a vision for our future. Plans for economic development, annexation, and downtown revitalization are part of our concept for future development. Dillsboro always strives to maintain our small-town charm while welcoming new business and residents.”

While tenured in Dearborn County’s Department of Planning & Zoning, Walker was actively involved with developing long-range plans for the Town of West Harrison. “He will bring the expertise needed to realize our dreams and guide our future”, says Greco. Walker grew up off of SR 129 between Versailles and Osgood on the family farm, and graduated from Milan High School. He understands the rural and farming culture that we so value and strive to maintain.

“Making a difference in people’s quality of life is the reason that I chose to follow this profession,” says Walker. “Dillsboro offers a teamwork approach to municipal administration which is different. I see this as an opportunity for professional growth and development due to the political structure of a town”.

Doug Baker, Council President was asked why he was impressed with Walker. “His professional conduct and positive feedback from prior employers and colleagues. I feel Derek brings a ton of positive energy and knowledge that will greatly benefit Dillsboro. I’m looking forward to his joining TEAM Dillsboro and moving Dillsboro Forward together,” said Baker.
