(Dillsboro, Ind.) - One year ago, Dillsboro was considered a “food desert”. The long-serving Fields IGA had been closed for quite some time and a succession of owners failed. The vacated building was sold and the remake began. The property was purchased by Perry and Meggie Parmar. Longtime employees of the Fields were rehired, the shelves began to fill again. New fuel tanks and an accommodative canopy was installed. Over the summer the new owners hosted FREE milk giveaways in conjunction with the USDA/Prairie Farms assistance. They have continued to build their business by establishing good will in the community.

Saturday, November 14th the Parmars along with family, friends and community leaders, celebrated the First Anniversary and Grand Re-Opening of the Dillsboro Family Market. Their 3 year old twin daughters, Pariti and Niyati, celebrated their birthday by dancing and spinning among the well-wishers. Grandparents, Randy and Lois Davis, joined in the celebration with Parmars’ son Dwij, assisting with the ribbon-cutting. The new owners attribute their first year of success to their great group of employees: Phil Hutslar, Lisa Herzner, Ray Arthur, Lisa Hussung, Mary Burnett, Sherry Bauer, Lorna Nicolaides, Tracy Arthur, Hunter Ross, Zach Hoffman, Laurel Powell, Alisha Stuart and Emily Holleran. Included among the supporters was Ken Mayfield, Winkler Wholesale Grocers from Dale, Indiana. They are the primary grocery supplier for the Dillsboro Family Market.

The market continues to grow and add services. The meat department offers the finest cuts of meat. Deli features, not only a wide selection of meats and cheeses, but also breakfast sandwiches, Hunts Brothers Pizza, fried chicken, and daily hot meal specials.
