DeWine, Whaley to Face Off in Ohio Governor Race

Whaley is the first woman ever nominated by a major party for Ohio governor.

(Columbus, Oh.) – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is one step closer to another term in office.

DeWine defeated three challengers in the Republican Primary for Governor on Tuesday in a landslide, receiving 514,374 votes (48.1 percent).

Jim Renacci received 28 percent of the vote, followed by Joe Blystone with 21.8 percent. Ron Hood received just over 22,000 votes, equaling 2.1 percent.

DeWine will meet Nan Whaley in the General Election in November.

Whaley, the former mayor of Dayton, won the Democratic nomination with 326,329 votes (65 percent), defeating former Cincinnati mayor John Cranley (175,771 votes).

Whaley is the first woman ever nominated by a major party for Ohio governor.
