Law enforcement will be on high alert for speeders the rest of July.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Dearborn County law enforcement agencies are teaming up with other Indiana law enforcement agencies to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding.
Now through July 31, law enforcement officers will be on high alert for speeding vehicles while participating in the Speeding Slows You Down campaign.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding killed 252 people in Indiana in 2021. Preliminary data shows that the number increased in 2022 to 290 speeding-related deaths.
Of the speeding-related crashes in 2022, approximately 77 percent occurred on non-interstate roads, according to the ICJI.
Nearly 300 more fatalities are projected in 2023.
Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around another vehicle, a hazardous object, or an unexpected curve.
“Speed limit signs are not suggestions, they are the law,” said Lawrenceburg Police Assistant Chief Brian Miller. “They are posted for the safety of the driver and others. Unfortunately, we see people speeding every day. If you’re killed in a crash, or if you kill someone else, that’s it – there’s no second chance. Speeding just isn’t worth the risk,” said Miller.
