(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – A Brookville man has been convicted in Dearborn County on drug charges.

Charles W. Winkelman, 36, was convicted of Unlawful Possession of a Syringe and found to be a Habitual Offender by a six-person jury during a one-day trial on Tuesday.

Winkelman was arrested in late August at a home just north of Interstate 74. Police responded to the home after receiving a report of an individual behaving erratically and potentially under the influence of a controlled substance, who was harassing his parents and sister.

According to a news release from Prosecuting Attorney Lynn Deddens, officers noted that Winkelman was exhibiting signs of being under the influence of methamphetamine.

During a search of Winkelman’s property and surrounding area, investigators discovered a used syringe. At trial, jurors found Winkelman to be a Habitual Offender based on three prior unrelated felony convictions in Dearborn and Ripley counties.

A sentencing date was not released.
