UPDATE: Investigators ID Man Found Dead At Mount Carmel School

The victim was from Liberty, Indiana.

Update published Thursday, June 14:

A man from Liberty, Indiana is identified as the person found dead at Mount Carmel School in Franklin County.

The discovery was made Monday morning in a van that was parked at the school's front parking lot. Deputies had been called to the school in reference to an abandoned vehicle.

Franklin County Sheriff’s investigators say the victim was 28-year-old William Garrett Shepard, 28.

"The autopsy showed no signs of a struggle or trauma and a cause of death was not determined.  However, toxicology results are pending and could take up to six weeks to be completed," said Major Gregory Mehlbauer, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

Deputies believe Shepard had been deceased and in the vehicle since early Saturday morning.

The death is not related to the Mount Carmel School in any way, Mehlbauer said.

(Mt. Carmel, Ind.) - A shocking discovery was made at Mount Carmel School in Franklin County.

It was Monday morning when a body was found inside a van parked at the school on Johnson Fork Road.

Franklin County Sheriff Ken Murphy told The Brookville Democrat-American newspaper that it is not known how long the body may have been there. The school is on summer break.

So far, the person’s name and how they died have not been released.

An autopsy was expected to be conducted.
