(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The Dearborn Community Foundation (DCF), Inc. recently awarded a $1,000 Proactive Grant to Dearborn Adult Center, Lawrenceburg, where senior citizens gather for a hot, nutritious lunch and to socialize.

In its 25th year of helping donors make a difference, DCF is awarding 15 proactive grants of $1,000 each throughout 2023 to charitable organizations that serve Dearborn County residents. Each of the Foundation’s 15 volunteer Board members is recommending a grant. The money comes from the Foundation’s Unrestricted Endowment Funds, established by donors to provide flexibility to address changing needs in the community over the years.

DCF Board member Jim Stock said he recommended the grant to DAC to support the needs of the organization, including, but not limited to senior dances and meals.

“The Dearborn Adult Center is a welcoming place for seniors to socialize and gather,” said Stock. “They do a great job providing a needed place for seniors to enjoy the company of others and in some cases meals and other assistance for those in need.”

DAC Executive Director Sarah Lansing says the organization greatly appreciates the DCF grant and plans to utilize the funds to help pay for items needed for the senior lunch meal site. “A thousand dollars will feed up to 10 seniors a day for almost three months, which is huge to us,” she said. “We do the lunches at no cost to our seniors.”

The lunchtime meal site is a vital program provided by DAC, said Lansing. “Many of our seniors live alone and this is a perfect time and place where they can some and feel safe and socialize with others, as well as eat a hot meal.”

The Dearborn Adult Center is a 501(c) (3) charitable organization. To donate, visit the DAC website at www.dearbornadultcenter.org or call 812-539-3113.
