(Hebron, Ky.) - Although the average airfare at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport have increased, tickets are still cheaper there than at any other airport in the region.

New U.S. Department of Transportation data shows average ticket prices at CVG were $347 in the first quarter of 2019. The figure is up about $14 from the first quarter of 2018, marking the first increase since discount airlines including Southwest Airlines, Allegiant Air and Frontier Airlines began offering service here.

CVG was the only airport in the region to have lower airfare than the national average of $353. Airports in Columbus, Indianapolis, Louisville, Lexington and Dayton were all higher.

The growing number of flights offered by the low-cost carriers has helped to bring down the airport’s prices.

The slightly higher ticket prices didn’t affect travelers decisions much, it seems, as the airport set an all-time high for passenger volume in June. A record 426,246 passengers flew through CVG last month.

The Cincinnati Business Courier reported that American Airlines witnessed a large increase in CVG passengers in the first half of 2019, up 14.6 percent from the first half last year. American’s growth was attributed to a new mainline flight to Dallas, Texas. The airline is now the second-largest at CVG behind only Delta Air Lines.
