(Versailles, Ind.) – Versailles residents and others from the area could soon enjoy a new entertainment venue on the Courthouse Square.
Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Housing and Development Authority this week launched a campaign to develop more space for music and entertainment in Versailles.
If the crowdfunding campaign led by Versailles Main Street reaches its goal of raising $50,000 by July 10, 2022, the project will receive a matching grant as part of the IHCDA’s CreatINg Places program.
The program recently celebrated its 150th project. Through the program, four projects have been completed within Ripley and Dearborn counties, including the Osgood Mini Park Revitalization.
Plans for the Versailles project include developing a downtown pocket park into a community gathering space with a stage for live music, theater, movies and more.
The project will honor local music and arts educators, Gary and Patsy Holdsworth.
"Mr. and Mrs. Holdsworth dedicated their lives to music, the arts, and this community, and so it seems fitting that we honor them with this pavilion," Holly Wehr, President of Main Street Versailles and Director of Community Development for the Town of Versailles. "We're excited to keep the legacy of their love of music alive in this community."
The Holdsworth’s careers spanned more than 30 years at South Ripley Schools. Their legacy has continued through programs and traditions they established, such as the marching band and show choir.
More than $25,000 has already been raised for the project.
If the project comes to fruition, the Holdsworth Entertainment Pavilion will be located on the Courthouse Square where two blighted properties once stood.
