(Dearborn County, Ind.) – Nearly two dozen community volunteers have stepped up to help children in need.
The Dearborn-Ohio County Child Advocate Program (DOCCA) has been actively recruiting adults to stand up for children in need of services through the family court system.
These children have found themselves at risk for abuse or neglect, and volunteers are trained to provide recommendations that prioritize the child’s best interest.
This month, 20 individuals were officially sworn in as Court Appointed Special Advocates, greatly reducing the number of children waiting for an advocate.
Each volunteer plays a crucial role in saving taxpayers hundreds of dollars each month by negating the need to appoint attorney guardian ad litem.
Volunteers are not only advocates but also investigate, facilitate and are the eyes and ears of the court.
