(Vevay, Ind.) - In late 2024, the Community Foundation of Switzerland County was awarded a grant in the amount of $467,327 from Lilly Endowment Inc. through the Community Leadership Implementation Grants component of the eighth phase of its Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT VIII) initiative.

This grant award is the culmination of nearly two years' worth of work and focuses on the overall health and wellness of Switzerland County residents. Identifying that transportation was a barrier to so many county residents, CFSCI proposed a unique opportunity to purchase a Mobile Medical Clinic with the GIFT VIII Implementation Grant.

Owned and operated by INcompass Healthcare, this state-of-the-art mobile medical clinic will serve all of Switzerland County by bringing medical services right to those with the greatest need.

Switzerland County’s mobile health clinic will provide a wide range of primary care services to all ages in the county including basic health assessments such as annual physicals, well-child visits, preventative screenings and check-ups to monitor overall health. The mobile health clinic will also provide flu, pneumonia and other immunizations, as well as chronic disease management, health education and treatment for minor injuries and illnesses.

Point-of-care testing (POCT) will be provided for strep, flu, COVID, pregnancy and urine drug screens, and labs can be drawn to be sent out for testing.  Referrals will be made for services such as medical specialties, mental health, substance abuse and medical imaging.

Through the GIFT VIII application process, CFSCI’s Board of Directors recognized that bettering the overall health of our community is of the utmost importance and will benefit from comprehensive initiatives involving many organizations. In 2024, CFSCI unanimously approved a commitment of $170,438 to Live Well Switzerland County. This is CFSCI’s largest proactive initiative in the Foundation’s history.

In sum, nearly $650,000 has been dedicated to this county-wide initiative. CFSCI refuses to accept being the lowest rated county in Indiana on health behaviors and health factors. Currently, the mobile medical clinic is scheduled to be in Patriot on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Tuesday of each month and the 2nd and 4th Tuesday in East Enterprise. Be on the lookout for more locations and events where this amazing community resource will be available.
