(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – The City of Lawrenceburg is continuing its annual contributions to support programs at Dearborn County’s three public school districts.

The city awarded $245,000 each to Lawrenceburg, South Dearborn, and Sunman-Dearborn school corporations. The city also awarded $15,000 to St. Lawrence School, a private school in Lawrenceburg.

Top administrators of each corporation and St. Lawrence School thanked Lawrenceburg Common Council for the donations on Monday.

“We just wanted to come and publicly thanks council, the city, and the mayor for constantly supporting the schools in the county,” said Karl Galey, superintendent of Lawrenceburg Community Schools.

Each superintendent briefly shared how they put the money to use.

Galey said Lawrenceburg Community Schools uses its funding from the city to support its PLATO program, cover career center fees, and provide an after-school tutoring program to students.

Sunman-Dearborn Community School Corporation superintendent Andrew Jackson said the corporation uses the Lawrenceburg funding to support its elementary counseling program, which provides social and emotional support for students in kindergarten through 5th grade.

Eric Lows, superintendent of South Dearborn Community School Corporation, said the money provides a number of counseling services for students, career and tech education, and providing services and programs for special needs students.

St. Lawrence School principal Mike Odar said the city grant helps offset technology and educational costs for school families.

Lawrenceburg Community Schools has received an additional $350,000 from the city to pay for textbook fees, so that families don’t have to pay those fees, according to Galey.
