(Indianapolis, Ind.) - The City of Lawrenceburg received a Merit Award for engineering excellence from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Indiana.

The award was made in recognition of the beautiful Lawrenceburg Civic Park created in historic downtown Lawrenceburg. In an area that used to be two paved parking lots, the City of Lawrenceburg revitalized the community space into a state of the art performance stage with sound system, screen and rear projection television, public family restroom and green room, splash pad, public Wi-Fi and large green spaces for outdoor entertainment and relaxing. The Lawrenceburg Civic Park and stage serve as the annual signature piece for the popular “Music on the River” concert series.

The Lawrenceburg Civic Park, one block east of the Lawrenceburg Event Center, enhances and activates the City’s unique downtown district, drawing crowds from the tristate area. Strategically placed in the heart of downtown to connect and revive the areas near Short and High Streets, the Lawrenceburg Civic Park has been transformed into a vibrant space for all to enjoy. This award is made each year by ACEC Indiana to recognize an outstanding engineering achievement that demonstrates a high degree of merit and ingenuity. Strand Associates, Inc. along with City of Lawrenceburg Mayor Kelly Mollaun, City Council, the Redevelopment Commission and Maxwell Construction led a diverse community steering team focused on planning, designing and implementing the Civic Park Project. City officials are focused on having the best of both worlds, a “small-town feel, but with amenities typically enjoyed by a much larger city,” Mollaun said.
