(Greendale, Ind.) - The City of Greendale celebrated a new partnership with altafiber on Tuesday afternoon.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the Greendale Cabin to unveil free public Wi-Fi at most Greendale city parks.

In partnership with the City of Greendale, altafiber’s Smart City practice – branded as UniCity – has installed a Smart City solution with Wi-Fi covering most of the parks in Greendale. The community may log on by connecting to “_CityofGreendaleFreeWifi.”

“We are excited to partner with altafiber to bring free public Wi-Fi to our city parks. This is a great benefit for our city. Thanks to altafiber and my team for working together to make this possible,” said Mayor Alan Weiss.

“altafiber has been connecting businesses and residents for 150 years, and our Wi-Fi and Smart City partnership with the City of Greendale continues this tradition,” said Greg Wheeler, President – Business Markets for altafiber. “Free public Wi-Fi is a powerful tool that allows municipalities to connect with, engage, and inform visitors and residents. We are proud to work with leadership from the City of Greendale on this important initiative.”

altafiber and the City of Greendale announced their partnership in 2021. The partnership will also deliver altafiber’s state-of-the-art “Fiber to the Premise” network (FTTP) to every address in the city, which number approximately 2,200 locations. The fiber build is on schedule to be completed this year.
