(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - If you have been to a high school sporting event in southeastern Indiana, you've likely met "Chuckie."

Charles "Chuckie" Sherman likes to take in ballgames at Lawrenceburg, South Dearborn, East Central and other surrounding schools. He can also be found enjoying community events like the Aurora Farmers Fair or Lawrenceburg Fall Fest.

For the last five weeks, Chuckie has been at Shady Nook Care Center in Lawrenceburg recovering from COVID-19. He was released on Friday.

"All the workers at Shady Nook were nice to me," said Chuckie. "They helped me get healthy. I chose Shady Nook to help me get stronger. I will miss everyone at Shady Nook. Today I am going home stronger because everyone rocks!"

Its been a tough couple of months for Chuckie. Prior to being admitted at Shady Nook, he spent several weeks in the hospital, where he required intubation and mechanical ventilation.

In May, he was transferred to Shady Nook where he needed maximum assistance for all care. However, Chuckie "made amazing strides and put forth a motivated effort each day," according to a physical therapy report from Shady Nook.

Now, he is home and doing well.

In a Facebook post Friday, Shady Nook made the following statement:

"We are happy to announce Chuckie is now independent with all his activities of daily living and mobility. Chuckie made a full recovery and returned safely to his home. We are thankful for our time spent with Chuckie and we are thrilled that he was able to safely discharge back to his home."
