(Southeast Indiana) - Troopers from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post, along with multiple other agencies, assisted in a police pursuit on Monday morning.

Shortly before 8:00 a.m., the Scottsburg Police Department received a report of a possible robbery at a Scott County gas station. At approximately 8:10 a.m., Seymour Police were patrolling on I-65 in Jackson County when they observed a black Volkswagen SUV with Tennessee registration, matching the suspect vehicle description.

A traffic stop was attempted but the driver, later identified as Mekyell Brown-Champion, 25, of Chicago, fled northbound at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit would travel through three counties as Brown-Champion continued northbound into Bartholomew County, where he exited I-65 onto State Road 46 in Columbus. He then traveled westbound on SR 46 before turning around and attempting to get back onto I-65 southbound. While traveling on the on-ramp, an ISP Trooper conducted a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver. The action caused the suspect vehicle to spin around and become disabled, ending the pursuit.

Brown-Champion was taken into custody without further incident.

After further investigation, the vehicle was reported stolen out of Nashville, Tennessee.

Scottsburg Police Department Investigators arrested him and transported him back to the Scott County Jail where he was incarcerated on initial charges of Robbery, Criminal Trespass, and Battery. Additional charges in Jackson and Bartholomew Counties are possible.
