(Harrison, Oh.) – A pedestrian safety project has started on West Road in Harrison.
The West Road project has been in the making for quite some time. Following a fatal pedestrian accident in 2018, a traffic study was completed to count the amount of people and vehicles using the bridge.
In 2020, the Ohio Department of Transportation awarded a $1 million safety grant for the project. The City of Harrison then dedicated $300,000 toward the project last March.
Now, crews are working to widen the West Road bridge over Interstate 74. Sidewalks and streetlights are also being added so pedestrians can cross safely.
Other improvements include a crosswalk signal at the intersection of West Road and Harrison Avenue and at Stone Drive and Harrison Avenue.
Motorists will also see new LED traffic signals being installed in the coming months.
