Good news, bad news for area motorists.

(Petersburg, Ky.) – The I-275 Carroll Cropper Bridge inspection is nearing completion.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet provided an update on the project on Tuesday morning. Officials reiterated that the project will be completed on Friday, April 14.
Crews have been conducting rigorous testing of metal welds on the bridge for more than a month. The federally-mandated inspection has required single-lane closures on the four-lane bridge, which continue on the westbound side of the bridge this week.
While the Carroll Cropper Bridge undergoes a routine inspection every two years (most recent in July 2022), the T-1 steel inspection is more specialized. It involves removing paint, testing hundreds of welds and replacing primer.
As the project nears completion, another KYTC T-1 inspection will begin on the I-275 Combs Hehl Bridge beginning today, April 11.
Similarly to the Cropper inspection, the Combs Hehl Bridge will see lane closures for the next several weeks.
