Canine Rescued After Falling Into Icy Pond In Aurora

Sally is recovering with her owners currently and is expected to make a full recovery.

(Aurora, Ind.) - At approximately 6:00 p.m. Feb. 25^th 2021 Aurora Fire Rescue,  Aurora Emergency Rescue, and Dearborn County Water Rescue were paged to the 11600 block of Gatch Hill Road for an Animal that had fallen through the ice. Engine 516, Truck 529, EMS Squad 429 initially responded with Brush trucks 522 & 528 later responding due to the remote location on a hill.  

Upon arrival Sally the canine was found paddling in water in the center of a 15’ deep ice covered body of water.  Fire fighters were able to secure a nearby paddle boat and quickly chop their way to the canine. Initially Sally was confused but was able to be hoisted into the boat and returned to shore.  

Sally is recovering with her owners currently and is expected to make a full recovery. Officers on scene were Chief 501 Jeff Lane, Asst. Chief 502 Mark Lane, Captain 504 David Whitesell, Lt. 508 Allen Eldrige. Fire fighters 535 Jason Rodgers & 561 Chris Bowling as well as EMT 429-8 Devin Bowling were active on scene. Dearborn Water rescue was in route from Lawrenceburg but due to traffic and a quick rescue were disregarded.
