(Boone Co., Ind.) - It has come to the attention of the Boone County Sheriff's Office that an impostor is claiming to be law enforcement.
Community members have reported receiving voicemail messages from "Major Mike Hall." This scammer claiming to be Hall is urging victims to return the call at (859) 534-7234 to address an "urgent legal matter."
As a sworn employee with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and member of Sheriff Helmig’s Command Staff, Major Hall is warning Boone County residents that this is an impostor fraudulently using Hall's name.
If you receive one of these messages, it is important that you do not return these calls as this number is not affiliated with Major Hall or the Boone County Sheriff's Office.
At this time, no one have fallen for this potential scam.
Remember, law enforcement will not directly contact you to request a payment over the phone in lieu of resolving a legal matter, whether is be an active warrant or threat of arrest.
