The bill has already passed the Senate with unanimous support.
(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Indiana lawmakers are moving toward a plan to create three addiction treatment centers across the state.
State Senator Jim Merritt (R-Indianapolis) said Wednesday the plan in Senate Bill 33 is to place comprehensive addiction recovery centers across Indiana.
He also says lawmakers are looking to give each center $1 million to get started. All applications for grants would go through the Division of Mental Health and Addiction.
Supporters say the state needs more places where people who are struggling with alcohol and drug addictions can go for various treatment types at a single location, including detoxification, relapse prevention, counseling and recovery services and peer supports, and all FDA-approved medication assisted treatments.
SB 33 passed the Senate on a 49-0 vote on February 12. It is now awaiting a vote in the House Public Health Committee.
