(Indianapolis, Ind.) – Two local businesses have been helping their customers for more than five decades.

The Indiana Governor’s Century and Half Century Business Awards honor Hoosier businesses that have remained in operation for a minimum of 100 or 50 consecutive years and have demonstrated a commitment to community service.

For 72 years, Baylor Trucking has been a company known for going the distance. On Wednesday, the Milan-based logistics company was recognized for its longevity with the Half Century Business Award.

Owner Cari Baylor received the award from Governor Eric Holcomb and State Rep. Randy Frye (R-Greensburg) during a ceremony at the Indiana Statehouse.

“Their longevity and commitment to their employees and the state is exemplary. As a family-owned business, they are an excellent role model for aspiring entrepreneurs and newer companies in our community,” Frye said.

Baylor Trucking was founded in 1945 by World War II veteran Chester Baylor. Today, the business has more than 250 trucks in its fleet and operates in 48 states.

Baylor was joined by her aunt, Bonnie Baylor Hammond, and her niece, Ella Shelton, in accepting the award.

Another local business, Knueven Brothers’ Save-A-Lot grocery store in Brookville, also received a Half Century Business Award. The business is estimated to generate $3.5 million in annual revenues and employs nearly 15 people at its Brookville facility.
