(Aurora, Ind.) - Community members gathered on Wednesday morning to celebrate the official grand opening of Popeyes Louisiana Chicken.

Festivities included a ribbon cutting ceremony and a check presentation to South Dearborn Dollars for Scholars.

"We just appreciate all of you being here with us today from Gilligan Company to the City of Aurora, we just want to thank you for all of your support," said Claire Poloni, Gilligan Director of People. "From the police officers directing traffic to the news stations, it's just been a very warm welcome."

Whenever a new store is opened on behalf of Gilligan Company, they choose a local foundation that gives back to the community to donate to. Today, Gilligan Company donated $1,000 to South Dearborn Dollars for Scholars to support scholarship funds for South Dearborn High School seniors.

Since 1991, South Dearborn Dollars for Scholars has raised $1.2 million for 1,110 South Dearborn students.

The Aurora Popeyes is located at 1030 Green Boulevard.
