AUDIO: State Rep. Frye Talks Lifting Mask Mandate; Bill On Solar, Wind Standards

The 2021 legislative session comes to a close on April 29.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) – The Indiana General Assembly is considering two bills that could fall into the controversial category.

State Representative Randy Frye (R-Greensburg) joined Eagle Country 99.3 on Monday morning to provide an update on the 2021 legislative session.

The first topic discussed was House Concurrent Resolution 18, which would remove COVID-19 mandates put in place by the state.

“I don’t think that particular resolution is going to move,” said Frye. “The current stimulus package coming from the federal government has a provision in it that says if the state doesn’t have the state of emergency in place, we are not eligible for the billions of dollars the federal government is sending Indiana. That would be quite a mistake for Hoosiers for us to make that decision and cost us that money.”

However, State Rep. Frye does believe there will be a similar bill that gets started this week to remove the mask mandate and crowd size limitations. Frye says the bill may address other issues, but masks and crowd limits are the main issues that will be addressed by the General Assembly.

“Indiana is doing great.” said Frye. “The vaccines are going great, and I think its time to put an end to some of these restrictions.”

Frye added that even if the bill to end the mask mandate is passed, Hoosiers could still choose to wear a mask if that makes them feel more protected against the virus.

Another bill that is being discussed at the Statehouse is House Bill 1381. The bill addresses commercial wind and solar standards in Indiana counties.

The legislation has already passed the House and is being considered in the Senate.

Frye voted no on the bill, stating that he doesn’t think the bill is ready for “primetime”.

However, he looks forward to seeing any changes to the bill that the Senate might make.
