Arrest After School Threat Found In Bathroom At Switz Co. HS

Two threatening messages were found written in bathrooms at the school this week.

(Vevay, Ind.) - An arrest has been made following a threat at Switzerland County High School this week.

Vevay Police say a threat was written in graffiti on a men’s restroom wall at the school on Thursday.

A person of interest was identified and questioned, at which point the crime was allegedly admitted to. The suspect was arrested and charged with Intimidation (level 6 felony).

It was the second threat found at the school this week. On Monday, school administrators say, a threat written in a girls bathroom stated “1-19-19 shoot up school.”

School administrators sent a letter to parents that there was no immediate threat. Still, extra security measures are being put in place at Switzerland County High School and there will be additional measures at Friday night’s homecoming basketball game and school dance.

“All school threats are taken very seriously,” Superintendent Rodney Hite wrote in the letter.

“I want all students and parents to know anyone making threats not only faces academic suspension but possible criminal prosecution. As a community we hold student safety above all else. To assist in student safety we encourage parents and students to follow the “see something, say something rule.” If you hear of a threat to a student or school safety in general, directly or through rumors, graffiti, or social media we ask that you help us by immediately communicating with the school administration and proper safety officials.”

Hite said there are no activities at Switzerland County High School, but groups and teams will be traveling to other schools for games and activities. Those schools have been notified of the threat.
