INDIANAPOLIS – Hoosier age 18 or older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 booster shot.
On Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved the administration of both Pfizer and Moderna booster shots. Initially, the boosters were only authorized for those 65 and older, younger people with health problems, and those with jobs that put them at extra risk of infection.
Booster doses are recommended for anyone 18 or older who received the second Pfizer or Moderna doses at least six months ago, or got the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine two or more months ago.
Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. Some may prefer the vaccine type that they originally received, while others may prefer to get a different booster. CDC recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots.
According to the CDC, people ages 50 and older and long-term care setting residents 18 and older should get a booster shot.
