(Harrison, Oh.) – An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.
The easy-to-use, medical device can analyze the heart’s rhythm, and if necessary, deliver an electric shock or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.
Such a device was used on Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin when he went into cardiac arrest in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals last season.
Earlier this month, four AEDs were donated to community organizations in Harrison.
One AED was accepted by Harrison High School athletic trainer Abby Walters and another by John Ley of Harrison Junior Baseball.
The devices will be on hand for athlete and spectator emergencies.
In total, the four donated devices by Ohio Charities Inc. totaled $13,000.
