Vevay Sweep as Furnish, Sullivan Win 5-Mile, 5K Races at Lauren's Burg Hill

Proceeds from Saturday's event assist children and families fighting DIPG.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Over 200 runners and walkers converged in downtown Lawrenceburg on Saturday morning for a great cause. 

The 11th annual Lauren's Burg Hill raised funds to support Lauren Hill's legacy through Lauren's Fight for Cure. Proceeds assist children and families fighting DIPG, the deadliest form of childhood brain cancer. 

A total of 68 participants took part in the 5-Mile Run. 

Vevay native Nathan Furnish won the race with a time of 30:41. The 20-year-old kept a tremendous pace of 6:09 per mile. 

Chayce Helms, 23, of Harrison, placed second with a time of 31:18. Alisha Detmer, 21, of Patriot, was the top performing female, placing third overall with a time of 31:37. 

The 5K run featured 103 participants. 

Luke Sullivan, 16, of Vevay, was the winner with a time of 20:22. 

Coming in second place was Kenny Steele, 14, of Cleves, with a time of 21:28. 15-year-old Lawrenceburg native Rylynn Head place third with a time of 21:42. Sophie Renihan, 19, of West Harrison, was the top female performer with a time of 24:41. 

In the 5K Walk, Elizabeth Griffin, 16, of Lawrenceburg, was first to cross the finish line at 35:34. Eric Anderson, 65, of Mason, was second at 38:30, while Tom Widener, 73, of Greendale, was third at 39:43. 

In total, 56 individuals took part in the 5K Walk.
