(Aurora, Ind.) – It has been a historic year for South Dearborn High School’s cross-country teams.

Last Saturday at Hanover College, the South Dearborn girls captured their first sectional championship since 1987. They did so behind impressive performances from their seven runners.

Sophomore Reva Geiser placed 3rd in the 66-runner field with a time of 21:11.4, which ranks as the 7th best time in program history.

She was followed by Shelby Rohe (10th), Mary Hallgarth (12th), Zoey Heizer (16th), Lakota Vincent (21st), Sylvea Kraemer (25th), and Malia Martin (28th).

By placing in the top 16, Geiser, Rohe, Hallgarth, and Heizer earned All-Sectional honors.

“The fact that the girls team won the Sectional this year means more to me than words,” Hallgarth told SD Athletics. “This team and every member of it has become family to me, and it was beautiful to see the hard work we have put in since the summer pay off. As a senior specifically, this means a lot to me, knowing that I can run with my girls one more time in high school.”

The Lady Knights will run at regionals on Saturday at Blue River Park in Shelbyville.

They will be joined at regionals by freshman Tegan Burk. He placed 10th at the boys sectional last week, becoming the 7th freshman in SD history to achieve All-Sectional status. Burk helped lead the boys team to a record of 32-69, which is the most wins for the SD boys since 2017.

The Lady Knights enter regionals with a season record of 88-50. This is the most wins since 2012 when the SD girls were victorious over 86 schools.
