Very few programs have had the amount of success JCD has had over the past 21 seasons.

(Osgood, Ind.) – The next Jac-Cen-Del High School girls’ varsity basketball head coach will have large shoes to fill.

On Thursday morning, Scott Smith tweeted that he is stepping down as head coach of the Lady Eagles.

“After long thought, I have concluded that I am no longer the right person to be the head coach at Jac-Cen-Del,” said Smith.

It has been a phenomenal 21 season run for Coach Smith at Jac-Cen-Del. In that time, Smith’s teams went 385-133, posting winning seasons 19 times.

Championships were plentiful too.

Jac-Cen-Del has won 16 sectional championships in the last 21 seasons, including 12 in a row from 2009 to 2020. Since 2009, the Lady Eagles advanced past the regional four times, including 2016 when they won the Class 1A State Championship.

“I will be forever grateful to all the young women who played during my time at JCD,” Smith tweeted. “Thank you for giving me some of the best experiences of my life. All of you left your mark on me, and a few have become like family. Thank you to the communities of Delaware, Osgood, and Napoleon. You were always wonderfully supportive of our teams. There is not a better fan base in Indiana.”

Coach Scott continued by saying he “wishes nothing but continued success for Lady Eagle Basketball and all returning players.”
