Rising Sun's Bush, S. Ripley's Welch Throw No-Hitters, Earn ORVC Weekly Honors

It's been a spring of no-hitters in southeastern Indiana.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) – The high school baseball and softball seasons have been littered with no-hitters so far this season, and that trend continued last week in the Ohio River Valley Conference.

The ORVC report for the week of April 23-28 was released on Tuesday.

Rising Sun’s Braydon Bush and South Ripley’s Luke Welch are the ORVC Baseball Players of the Week.

It’s the second-straight week Bush has earned the honor. It comes as no surprise considering Bush threw his second-consecutive no-hitter (15 K’s), shutting out Milan on April 27. The Shiners star also homered twice in that game.

Luke Welch also threw a no-hitter last week against Madison. The Raiders star struck out 15 over 7 innings of work.

The ORVC Softball Player of the Week went to Jac-Cen-Del’s Morgen Carroll. The Lady Eagles star went 2-0 in the circle with 27 K’s, 5 hits and 1 earned run over 14 innings.

Southwestern’s Hunter Mefford is the ORVC Boys Golfer of the Week. Mefford shot 40 at Shadowood and 82 at Sunrise.

The ORVC Boys Track & Field Performers of the Week are Southwestern duo Mitchell Cline and Bradley Winston. On the girl’s side, South Ripley’s Megan Cole and Southwestern’s Taylor Cole shared the honor for the second week in a row.

Megan Cole set two South Ripley records in the 1600m and 3200m runs.
