Rising Sun Two Wins Away from First Semi-State Championship

The Shiners will take on Indy Lutheran in the Semi-State Semifinals on Saturday.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) – Rising Sun is two wins away from playing for a softball state championship.

The Lady Shiners captured their fourth Class 1A Regional Championship on Tuesday with a 7-6 win over West Washington.

Trailing 6-5 going into the sixth inning, Rising Sun scored two runs in the top half of the inning to regain the lead.

The Shiners would hold on to the victory by holding West Washington scoreless in the final two innings.

Sophomore Ryan Works led the way with two home runs and four RBI. Emma Russell added a two-run double for Rising Sun, while Lily Courtney knocked in one run on a sacrifice.

Elaina Titkemeyer was the winning pitcher, giving up six earned runs over seven innings.

Next up for Rising Sun (25-1) is Indianapolis Lutheran (18-9). The semi-state matchup between two of the Top 10 ranked teams in Class 1A will take place Saturday at North Davies. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

The winner will play either #2 Clay City (23-1) or #1 Tecumseh (22-9) for the semi-state championship on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

Rising Sun carries a 21-game winning streak into the semi-state. The Shiners have outscored their opponents 255-42 this season. They are led by five ORVC All-Conference selections in Elaina Titkemeyer, Ryan Works, Lily Courtney, Alyssa Simpson, and Nora Powell.
