(Milan, Ind.) - Milan HS Senior, Mason Johnson, competed in his first US Strongman competition over this weekend in Dayton, Kentucky.

He won four out of the five competitions in his division and qualified for the USS Nationals in Denver, Colorado this summer.

Mason has been lifting for many years as a varsity football player and wrestler that holds the all-time back squat record for his weight class in Milan’s weightlifting strength-conditioning class.

He started preparing for this competition as soon as football ended. He had previously watched this competition the year before and set his mind to it that he would be there next year. On Strongman Saturdays, Mason would prepare for the five events between every two weeks. Through all this preparation, Mason felt very prepared for this competition because he was very prepared and could only do better.

Katie Johnson, Mason’s mom says, “Could not be more proud of Mason. His first Strongman competition and he took first place. He set his mind to this, has trained hard and accomplished what he wanted. Next Nationals in Colorado!” According to Mason, “I have always had a dream of doing this and getting to go compete was an amazing feeling. I was lifting six times a week having a day on the weekend that was designed for competition events, which is called Strongman Saturday.”

Milan HS Seniors are showing hard work and striving to better themselves as shown.
