(St. Louis, Mo.) – Mason Parris is just two wins away from competing for a NCAA Wrestling National Championship.
Parris, a junior at the University of Michigan, advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Wrestling Championships on Thursday in St. Louis.
In his first two bouts in the heavyweight division, Parris made quick work of North Carolina’s Andrew Gunning and Northern Iowa’s Carter Isley.
Parris pinned Gunning in the first round, and defeated Isley by technical fall (17-1) in the second round.
In the quarterfinals, Parris (No. 2 Seed) will take on Rider’s Ethan Laird (No. 7 Seed).
Other notables remaining in the heavyweight tournament are top-seeded Gable Steveson (Minnesota), Cohlton Schultz (Arizona St.), Tony Cassioppi (Iowa), Gannon Gremmel (Iowa State), and Greg Kerkvliet (Penn St.).
The quarterfinals begin Friday at 11:00 a.m. and will be aired on ESPNU. The semifinals will switch to ESPN starting at 8:00 p.m.
