(Aurora, Ind.) – South Dearborn High School is searching for a new varsity baseball head coach for the first time in nearly three decades.

The athletic department announced today that Jay Malott has retired from the program.

He has coached South Dearborn baseball for 38 years, including 29 as the head coach.

Over that time, Malott won 406 games, five sectional championships, three EIAC titles, and the school’s only baseball regional championship in 2007.

“I want to personally thank all the players that made our program so successful.  I am especially appreciative of the many coaches that I had the opportunity to work with as well as the many parents who allowed me to coach their kids.  I trust that the relationships I have with coaches and (past & present) players will continue into the future,” said Malott.

According to athletic director Ryan Walston, Malott will continue as a teacher at South Dearborn High School.
